Every so often we all need a little help being productive throughout our workday. In fact, you’re probably supposed to be doing something else right now! The good news is that being productive is something that we can work on after we’ve acknowledged that procrastination is a habit we need to kick. Here are some great ways to stop procrastinating and get back to work.

1. (10+2)*5

(10+2)*5 is an equation that could help you get through your work day. It means you do 10 minutes of work, take a 2-minute break, and repeat five times. Each cycle makes up one hour. The main point of this equation is to be very strict with the time limits and follow the cycle. It might seem like a jam-packed schedule, but it can keep you focused and eager to get back to work.

2. Don’t Work at Home

If you’re doing work from home, head for the library or a coffee shop instead and don’t ruin the comfort and relaxation of home. When you’re outside of the house, you focus more on the work rather than everything you could be doing at home like laundry – and Netflix! Ultimately, you’ll be more relaxed at home if you don’t need to think about work, and you’ll be more productive outside of the house.

3. Advance Planning

Before you go to bed, take 15 minutes and get everything you need ready for the next day. Pack your gym bag, choose your outfit, or just create a checklist, so you don’t forget anything in the morning when you’re feeling tired and flustered. This won’t take up a lot of your time in the evening, but it can save a ton of time in the morning!

4. Break It Up

When you’re confronted with a large project and feel like it’s too much, break up the work into much smaller tasks. Create a checklist of everything that needs to be done to complete the project and then you can complete each item one at a time. The project will feel much more manageable as you knock everything off your list! When you accomplish anything, even if it’s small, it gets the ball rolling and makes you want to do even more.

5. Make A Timetable

Procrastination is a tough pattern of behavior to break when you’ve been doing it for a while. If you’re having trouble concentrating on your work, set a dedicated amount of time for each task you need to accomplish for the day. When you have a deadline, you’ll automatically put yourself in work mode, and you’ll get your work done faster and with more focus.

6. Put Your Phone Away

Are you looking at your phone right now? Smartphone users check their phones 150 times a day, on average. Keeping your phone on your desk only feeds the habit! Put your phone in your drawer or your purse and you’ll immediately become less distracted and better able to focus. Just think of it as “out of sight, out of mind!”
