There are a lot of different creams and products to help us combat the effects of aging, but you can also combat the signs aging from the inside out. There are some foods we can eat that can age our skin quicker (greasy fast food, for example), but there are also some foods that help us maintain our youthful glow as we get older. Take note of the following foods and how they can help you keep your skin and your health young, and try to implement them into your diet daily for the best results possible!

1. Olive Oil

Olive oil is jammed packed full of healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which contribute to heart health! In fact, about 40 years ago researchers from the Seven Countries Study concluded that the fats in olive oil were largely responsible for the low rate of heart disease and cancer on the Greek island of Crete. However, we now know that olive oil also contains polyphenols which are really powerful antioxidants that help fight off free radicals in the body and help us keep looking and feeling young. It improves circulation to all areas of the body, it helps to keep insulin levels in check by preventing spikes in blood sugar, it contains a substance called Oleocanthal which has many anti-inflammatory benefits, and olive oil helps anti-aging, osteoporosis and skin damage as it adds a protective coating on the skin when you use it both topically as well as when you ingest it, creating a barrier from the sun.

2. Cocoa

Anti-aging doesn't always refer to keeping your appearance youthful, it also refers to keeping your whole body young and that's something that cocoa does a really great job at. Cocoa is really rich in flavanols, which help preserve healthy blood vessels. Healthy blood vessels are essential when keeping the body healthy because it ensures a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, heart disease and high blood pressure. With that being said, chocolate is high in antioxidants which help get rid of free radicals in the body that do damage to our skin cells. A study out of the U.K. found that when people added 20g a day of dark chocolate, their skin was better able to handle the harmful UV rays thus helping to prevent wrinkles (since UV rays are the biggest contributors to wrinkles).
