The Best Holiday Makeup Trends of 2016 Dec 22, 2016 by Sarah (Day Styles)

The holidays are a great time to add some sparkle to your everyday makeup routine - and actually get away with it! We finally have some time to experiment with trendy styles and find what works best. With that in mind, here are our favorite trends this holiday season.

Winged Eyeliner

This is a classic favorite. It seems chic and effortless - until you attempt to draw it on yourself. This classic look takes some practice after all, so take a seat, grab a mirror, and get practicing! You can add some mascara for volume once your liner is complete, and, if you’re daring enough, you can add a colored lip as well. Nothing is off limits!

Red Glitter Lips

If you want to take your lipstick up a notch, try this glittery trend. Coat your lips in your favorite shade of red and add a top coat of gloss (red or clear, it’s up to you). Top your lips with some super-fine deep red colored glitter from an art store. You’ve instantly become the envy of the party. Again, make sure this is not an eating function, because if so you’ll be eating a lot of that glitter before the night is over!

Red Lips

‘Tis the season where we see red in so many ways. Don't feel like dealing with glitter? Red lipstick never goes out of style. Classy matte red lips are even more perfect for holiday parties. However, if your party consists of a sit-down meal maybe wait and do red lips at a different time as they will be hard to maintain while you’re eating or drinking a glass of wine.

Copper Eye Shimmer

If you aren’t into big colors during the holidays, try neutral tones but with a twist. Opting for shimmer can enhance your holiday look by giving it that hint of a sparkle. Try for a copper-colored shimmer in addition to your black eyeliner. Paired with a nude lip this look is so chic and is perfect for any holiday function.

Bold Lips

Don’t like red? You’re still in luck because any bold color is a great look for the holidays. Dark colors are typically quite trendy through the winter months, burgundy and deep purple for example, and when you wear them it’s easy to go light on all of your other makeup. Have fun with it!

Some of us simply don’t wear a lot of makeup, so going with nude shades on your face is easy and effortlessly chic. Simple liner on your eye, some mascara, and a nude shadow, paired with some nude blush and a nude lip is totally understated but just as gorgeous and can really help accentuate your natural beauty.

Blush Pink

The next step up from an all-nude face is using blush pink. It’s a great color to bring some attention to the most important areas, your eyes, lips, and cheeks. Don’t go too deep with the pink, choose one that’s just slightly pinker than your natural skin tone and it will be a sleek way to upgrade your makeup this season.
