8 Beauty Habits You Need To Quit Now Jun 13, 2016 by Sarah (Day Styles)
Are you the type of person who finds it extremely hard to change old habits? Some people may find it especially difficult when it comes to their beauty routines. It’s so easy to get so busy that your beauty routine takes a toll. It might be getting home late and not washing your face before bed, or it’s going months without realizing it’s been too long since you washed your makeup brushes. Whatever it is - it’s not good! By putting in a little more effort, we can all avoid the following bad habits in our beauty routines.
Throwing Out Old Makeup
Surprisingly enough, makeup does have a recommended lifespan just like a lot of other products! Mascara can only last two to three months while foundations can normally last a little longer than that. Eye makeup doesn’t last very long because it’s normally much lighter and sensitive due to the nature of the eye. You don’t want to push the longevity of your makeup because you don’t want unhealthy bacteria to start accumulating. When that happens, it can lead to bacteria getting in your eye and causing things like conjunctivitis (pink eye!) If you hate throwing up makeup that is half full (who doesn’t?) and you don’t use your beauty products frequently enough, try purchasing a travel size instead!
If you’re anything like me popping a pimple seems SO satisfying, but we all need to stop immediately! Honestly, it causes more problems than it solves. Depending on the type of acne you have, whether it’s cystic, hormonal, blackheads or whiteheads, there are a ton of different alternative treatments. Buy products that are focused on your specific type of acne, or if you’re worried, visit a dermatologist. If seeing a pimple pop is really satisfying to you, you can always watch videos on YouTube!
Take Your Makeup Off Before Bed
Everyone likes to wind down at the end of the day, and so does your skin. If you leave your makeup on all night long, your skin doesn’t get a chance to breathe, which often leads to clogged pores and, ultimately, acne. If you find yourself too tired most nights to scrub your face off, leave some makeup removing wipes by your bed and use those instead. If you prepare the wipes in advance, you won’t need to struggle in the bathroom late at night, and you won’t have any excuses either!
Don’t Skip Sunscreen
Sunscreen is not just for beach days or when you’re on vacation in a sunny destination. Don’t skip your sunscreen because it’s overcast - it should be a part of your daily routine in the summer and the winter. If you use makeup that has SPF incorporated into it, you may think that’s good enough - but it’s not. You should be using an SPF that provides protection from both UVA and UVB rays all the time - almost like a primer before you apply your makeup. The sun is a serious contributor to wrinkles and faster aging, so use your sunscreen and protect your skin for as long as possible!
