Summer Style 2016: Hairstyles That Will Keep You Cool Aug 2, 2016 by Sarah (Day Styles)

With heat comes humidity and the humidity is not our friend. Whether your hair goes frizzy, flat, or just gets soaked, there’s a hairstyle that can help! The best way to keep cool in the heat is to keep your hair off your neck, but there are some different ways to spice up that up-do! Check out our favorite hairstyles that look stylish while remaining cool in the summer heat.

Use Braids

Braids are an easy way to make a casual hairdo look a lot more put together. A French braid running along your hairline can spice up a simple messy bun and add a lot more character and sophistication to the hair. If braids are easy for you, try including a French braid on the under part of your hair running up into a bun or a ponytail to keep things interesting while leaving you nice and cool during those hot summer days (and nights!)

French Twist Your Hair

If you’ve got long hair, consider attempting a messy French twist! Back comb your tresses and use a texturizing spray on it as well. Part your hair in half and separate your strands into two sections. Twist them together creating a twist at the back of your head and pin the hair in place. Use your fingers to mess it up a bit if you want to make it look a bit casual, and spray with hairspray once you’ve gotten the look you want. The French Twist is a great style for a more formal occasion when the weather is still scorching!

Use Headbands Or Ribbon

An effective way to dress up a ponytail or a high bun is to add a cute headband or a ribbon to the front of your hair. Depending on the occasion, you can add sparkles, dress it up with colors and textures, or you can keep it casual by using a headband the same color as your hair. Headbands and ribbons can also help if it’s windy on the beach or the water. You can also wrap your hair around a headband, which would give you more of a “boho chic” look: with your hair down, fix a headband around your head and then wrap your longer tresses around it to keep it off of your neck. Best of all, headbands are inexpensive, and you can just throw one on without worrying about it!

Spice Up Your Ponytail

Take a piece of hair from your ponytail and wrap it around the base, covering the hair elastic. This look takes your ponytail to the next level, a little more fancy than normal. You can use the same trick on a low ponytail or even a bun if you want! It adds just a little bit extra to the hair style so it doesn’t look like you just rolled out of bed…even though you may have.

Use a Scarf

No, we don’t mean wrapping a scarf around your neck - you might get a little overheated if you did that! But a scarf can add dimension and fun to a ponytail or a high bun - especially if you have blunt or side bangs. Put your hair up in a messy bun or high ponytail and then wrap the scarf around your hair so that the scarf ties at the top of your head, pushing the bottom of your hair up into the bun and giving it a little more “oomph.”

Don’t let your hair bit the bullet during the summer and use one of these simple techniques to keep fresh and chic.
