12 Celebrities That Became Politicians Jan 24, 2017 by Sarah (Day Styles)
Celebrities have always used their fame and fortune in various ways. Some people try and help others through charities and foundations, while others use their name and influence to join a political party or run for office. From movie stars to football players, here are some infamous celebrities that have tried their hand at politics - for good and bad!
Arnold Schwarzenegger, best known his role in “The Terminator,” was the governor of California from 2003 until 2011. Despite the fact that he’d never had any experience in politics before he won two terms in office and said that he’d run for President if he had been born in the United States (he was born in Austria but became an American citizen in 1983). Unfortunately, while Schwarzenegger was a movie superstar, he didn’t live up to his nickname of “The Governator.”
He had a mixed record in office with some effective policies and some serious mistakes. He left office in 2011 with one of the worst approval ratings in history. He also then split from his wife of over twenty years, Maria Shriver, after it was brought to light that the Governor had an affair with a maid, had a child, and kept it a secret for almost a decade! Turns out of the public spotlight was not kind to Arnold Schwarzenegger. Next in the spotlight: a comedian who became a senator?
