NASA Discovers Seven New Planets Feb 22, 2017 by Sarah (Day Styles)
Check out this amazing video from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory! NASA has just discovered SEVEN different Earth-sized planets orbiting a tiny star not too far from Earth. This is the first real opportunity to search for alien life outside of the solar system. The planets are orbiting a star called TRAPPIST-1 that is about 40 light years (235 trillion miles) from Earth. At least three of the planets in this new solar system could have liquid water and even giant oceans teeming with alien bacteria. Whether or not scientists find more evidence for a breathable atmosphere (and life) on these planets, it is an amazing learning experience to hear about how they discovered these exoplanets and what they could look like. After all, who knows when we might need “Planet B.” Either way, it’s inspirational that these determined scientists can peer into the depths of space and find traces of whole new planets that, one day, people can actually visit.
