A 6 year old Chilean flamingo learns to walk on a prosthetic leg.
At the Sorocaba zoo in Brazil a Flamingo has been fitted with a prosthetic leg after an injury caused the leg to be fractured; resulting in a partial amputation of the limb. The prosthetic limb measuring 7 inches in length and constructed of carbon fiber was donated to the zoo by a local prosthetics manufacture. Remarkably the six-year old Chilean Flamingo adapted to the prosthetic quickly and was up walking around only days after the surgery. Vets at the Zoo anticipate full recovery in the coming weeks at that point the flamingo will be reintroduced to the flock.
