The Best Reasons to Shave Your Face - For Women!

Sep 28, 2016 by Sarah (Day Styles)

That’s right ladies - we’re going to give you the best tips for shaving your face. No, we don’t think you’re secretly growing a beard, but using a razor on your face actually has some surprising skincare benefits! This process is called “dermaplaning” and it can remove unwanted hair as well as make your skin look fresh and amazing. You can receive these treatments from an esthetician at a spa, or you can use a facial razor or eyebrow shaper at home. Check it out - and then soon enough you’ll be purchasing a razor just for your face!

Exfoliating

Dermaplaning is best for dealing with uneven skin surfaces. The acne and tiny scars that you may have on your face are hard to cover with makeup because light reflects off them differently than your clear skin. When you do a few dermaplaning treatments, over time the skin resurfaces and reduces the unevenness that you may have. It also helps to get rid of any dead skin cells that are sitting on top of your healthy skin. That way, they don’t clog your pores and cause additional acne.

Shrink Pores

If you look closely at your pores, you’ll notice they are shaped like little funnels. When you dermaplane, it takes the top part of the funnel off, making the pore look smaller and much less noticeable. It also helps to reduce the appearance of normal sebaceous filaments (white heads, basically) that appear on your cheeks and your nose.

Works with Other Skin Treatments

Dermaplaning helps remove the top layer of dead skin on your face, allowing those moisturizers and miracle creams to work much better Applying moisturizer to clogged pores is like trying to pour liquid into a container that has a lid on it. Dermaplaning removes the “lid” and allows the moisture and nutrients to go deep into the skin. You can take it a step further and use it as part of a chemical peel, which will provide much more intense results than just using an exfoliator.

Makeup Application

This process allows your makeup to go onto your skin much smoother than normal. If you’re worried that the hair on your face is going to come back thicker and darker, no need - it doesn’t (I’ve personally had this treatment, it really doesn’t), so your makeup consistently looks flawless.

Safe for Everyone

Dermaplaning is a treatment that is perfectly safe for anyone. Some skin treatments should be avoiding by women who are pregnant or nursing, but dermaplaning isn’t one of them. So if you are pregnant or nursing, feel free to indulge yourself and take your pregnancy glow up to the next level. Just remember that you should shave dry using a facial razor or eyebrow shaper (not a regular razor for your legs!) and avoid areas with acne. You can watch an instructional video on YouTube if you want to see how it’s done. But trust us, dermaplaning is safe, fast, and easy.
