If you’re one of those people who wake up and immediately think of all the delicious sugary treats hanging out in your pantry – then it’s time to turn things around! Let’s switch up our thinking and start getting excited about foods we can consume in the morning to help our bodies detoxify throughout the day, getting rid of all of the bad things we’ve put in it before. Here is a list of foods to consider for your breakfast going forward.

Water

Not only are you normally dehydrated when you wake up first thing in the morning, but water can help remove the toxins from your system as well. Drinking a big glass of water in the morning will help to rehydrate your cells, boost metabolism and flush the toxins from your body.

Ginger

Dr. Oz reports that ginger is a great way to help detoxify your body! It’s easy to add ginger into your smoothies, or make a ginger tea with lemon in the morning, you could even add some ginger juice to our favourite tea in the morning.

Cranberry Juice

Cranberry juice is a great diuretic that can help get rid of bad bacteria in the urinary tract of the body and helps to cleanse the liver specifically. Not only that – it’s FULL of antioxidants and can help the appearance of your skin too! 

Broccoli

Yes, broccoli is a bit of a weird food to eat in the morning, but it actually flushes toxins from the body and helps to reset energy levels! If you don’t want to make some steamed broccoli first thing in the morning, try adding it to your morning smoothie to mask the flavour with fruit!

Apples

Apples are naturally full with tons of fibre, which helps to eliminate toxins from the body, but aim for organic apples or else you’ll just be replacing the toxins with chemicals from the apples. 

Green Tea

There are a lot of really positive effects of drinking green tea. When you drink it, it is proven to get rid of toxins, resets the body and mind for better energy and health. It also helps to decrease inflammation in the body and has antioxidant benefits that helps improve your digestion, heart health and aging effects! Try some with a nice slice of lemon in the mornings instead of coffee!

Artichokes

Artichokes are known to be a prebiotic, so having them in the morning can really help to improve digestive health and detoxify our liver! Combined with probiotics (like Greek yogurt), artichokes could maybe make you feel like a million bucks!

Grains

The water and the magnesium that are supplied by whole grains help to eliminate and flush toxins out of the body. Oats and quinoa are a great option in the morning when you’re crawling out of bed, and you can make a lot at once and portion it out throughout the week. 

Coconut

Anything that is 100% coconut can do wonders at detoxifying the body. Add some coconut oil to your morning coffee or put some on your morning whole grain toast! Coconut oil is even great for cooking your lean proteins in the morning.
