7 Tips For Adding Color To Your Wardrobe
If you’re like me and like to wear black most of the time (or you're wearing dark clothes for work), you know it can sometimes get a bit boring and bland. Unless you mix and match a lot of textures in an all black wardrobe, it can look like you’re wearing the same thing day in and day out. Color is fun to play with, but it can be a difficult for those of us who like to keep it safe and normally stay away from bright clothing. Here are some tips to subtly incorporate color into your everyday wardrobe, just enough to keep things interesting.
A great way to add some color to your look is to use brighter makeup as opposed to sticking with neutrals. You can add red with a vivid lipstick, or you can use colors that accentuate your eyes. Blue eyes pair well with a rusty brown, purple, orange, pink, and different shades of blue. Green eyes pair well with purple, ashy brown, silver, gray, and gold. Hazel eyes pair well with hues of both blue and green. Adding these colors will not only make your eyes stand out, but they will help add that little extra touch to your outfit.
Just like how makeup can add an element of color to your wardrobe, so can a manicure! Instead of going with a dark or beige color, opt for brighter hues, some sparkles, or nail art! If you don’t know what colors would look good with your skin, ask your manicurist if you can try some of them out and keep track of what looks good and what doesn’t. That way you know what to use next time you get your nails done.
Wearing a scarf is one of the easiest ways to add prints or colors into your wardrobe. There are countless options with scarves when it comes to patterns, colors, and textures, that it all comes down to your personal preference. You can find large scarves and wear them as a shawl, or you can use a smaller silk scarf and tie it around your neck like they did in the 50s and 60s. Scarves are a versatile and inexpensive accessory and one of the easiest ways to spice up an otherwise conservative outfit.
Prints are a great way to add texture and color to your outfit without looking like you’re adding texture and color to your outfit. Depending on the type and size of the print, this is a great way to appear like you’re wearing stylish all-black while adding a hint of texture and color. Avoid wearing too much of one print or multiple prints (unless you know how to pair prints well) as too much can be overpowering and unflattering.
